I am just amazed when I read letters to the editor supporting Measure 2.
I just can’t believe how presumably intelligent folks have convinced themselves that if Measure 2 is approved, then we property owners will live on happily forever free of this so called unfair tax.
I do not know of any tax that is totally fair across the board, however, they are a necessary evil and as such need to exist.
Most of the Measure 2 proponents are, I believe, home and landowners, just as I am. So, if Measure 2 passes have you given any thought to the tax revenue lost from property such as oil company infrastructure, pipelines and non-resident real estate owners and probably even foreign property owners and the list goes on?
If you think for one moment these lost tax revenues won’t be replaced in some form by the state, plus maybe a little extra for good measure, are not being realistic.
The non-resident property owners probably would be exempt leaving the state residents paying the entire bill.
When you vote on Measure 2 remember the old adage — be careful what you wish for.
