West Fargo edges Fargo Shanley in title game

MANDAN — All the scoring action happened in the first inning for the West Fargo baseball team during the Class A championship game.

The Packers scored two runs and that’s all Zachary Steckler and Andy Young needed for the 2-0 win over Fargo Shanley on Saturday at Veteran’s Memorial Park.

Steckler and Young combined for seven innings, allowing four hits and striking out seven. Young and Landon Uetz each had two hits and scored runs for West Fargo (33-5).

Joseph Hallock took the loss for the Deacons (22-17).

Fargo Davies 11, Wahpeton 2

Fargo Davies didn’t wait long to pile on the runs. The Eagles posted five runs in the first inning en route to a win over Wahpeton in the third-place game.

Justin Beach went the distance for Davies (26-12), allowing two runs on nine hits and striking out five. Patrick Murphy led the offense with two hits and three RBIs.

Preston Kath posted three hits, a double and scored one run for Wahpeton (22-16).

Bismarck’s backup catcher Tanner Bittner hit a grand slam to left-center field en route to a win over Williston in seventh place game.

Kyler Olson and Tyler Richter combined for seven innings, allowing one run on two hits and striking out five for Bismarck (21-15).

Seth Falcon pitched all seven innings for the Coyotes (12-22).
