Junior linebacker selected to wear Montana’s No. 37

MISSOULA, Mont. — University of Montana linebacker Jordan Tripp has been selected to wear No. 37 for the Grizzlies for the next two seasons.

MISSOULA, Mont. — University of Montana linebacker Jordan Tripp has been selected to wear No. 37 for the Grizzlies for the next two seasons.

Griz coach Mick Delaney made the announcement Monday night at a meeting of players who have returned to Missoula for voluntary summer workouts.

Senior defensive end Ryan Fetherston of East Helena chose Tripp to wear the legacy number. The tradition dates back to the 1980s with the wearer of the No. 37 jersey selecting an in-state defensive player as his successor.

Tripp, who graduated from Missoula Big Sky, said it will be difficult to change from No. 44 — the only number he has worn since 5th grade — but he says it will be an honor to wear No. 37. Tripp is a third generation Griz football player.

Fetherston says Tripp is an excellent representative for Griz football both on and off the field.
