Theodore Roosevelt National Park’s North Unit Scenic Drive after mile six will be open with limited access through the summer.
The road will remained closed to motor vehicle traffic while it is under repair due to slumping.
According to a representative for the North Unit, the bids are already out for the reconstruction of that section of the road.
He expected repairs to be completed over the summer, hopefully allowing the road to open again to motor vehicle traffic in the fall.
Linda Morton, park ranger and South District interpreter, said the road slumping became evident this month.
“Because of the geography of the road and the weather we had last summer, the road has started to slump and cannot handle vehicle traffic,” she said.
But she added that the road will remain open to pedestrian and bicycle traffic while it is under repair.
Eileen Andes, spokeswoman for the park, was unavailable for comment about the cost of the road repairs and the road’s condition.
