Allan Fredrick and Dale Burwick won their first career feature races Saturday night at the Southwest Speedway — two victories that have been a long time coming.

After racing for 15 years and in multiple classes, Fredrick was able to get the win in the Wissota Street Stocks feature.

“I feel awesome” Fredrick said with a smile. “This win is a long time overdue.”

Fredrick, who also won his heat race, was in second until the last lap of the race. He used lap traffic to his advantage to get the win. He passed T.C. Shelhamer on the back straightaway to get the win.

“I was just hoping for lap traffic.” said Fredrick, who is from Richardton. “Luckily I shot underneath and that’s where I pulled ahead of him.”

In the IMCA Modifieds feature race, Burwick managed to hold off competitors Jeff Decker and Bill Miller after a caution brought them back together with two laps remaining.

“It was a fast track, but it was a bit rough” Burwick said. “If you didn’t have the right setup, you were going to get thrown around a lot.”

In his sixth racing at the Speedway, the Dickinson driver was thrilled about his first win in his career.

“It was a hard-fought battle” said Burwick. “I couldn’t be happier.”

Only one day after taking a win in the Hobby Stocks at Mandan’s Dacotah’s Speedway, Scott Gartner was victorious in the Southwest Speedway’s Pure Stocks class.

“I felt pretty good” Gartner said with a grin.

Kendall Booke, who had been leading the feature up until the cautions, lost the lead after pulling ahead through the lap traffic.

Gartner managed to snag the win after two cautions brought the racers back together.

Gartner and Booke both won their heat races.

“I was hoping for a caution to bring us all back together,” Gartner said. “After that, I was just thinking ‘hold your line.’”

In the Thunder 4’s, Dickinson’s Derek Nitschke was able to get an early lead and never looked back.

It was Nitschke’s second win of the season.

“I felt pretty comfortable after I had the lead” Nitschke said. “I just had to hold my pace.”
