Erickson, Roughriders blank Sidney 7-0

MILES CITY, Mont. — Mark Erickson threw five scoreless innings and Luke Herauf wrapped things up as the Dickinson Roughriders blanked Sidney, Mont., on Friday afternoon at the Harry Griffith Wood Bat Classic.

Erickson, normally a catcher, didn’t allow a run as the Roughriders claimed a 7-0 victory.

“We wanted to get some guys some work,” Dickinson head coach Cory Hansen said. “We got Mark some time and he pitched well.

“We see a light there at the end of the tunnel. He’s going to contribute for us on the mound. It adds one more arm that we can use. I think in tournament play, we can go pretty deep and have some fresh arms each time.”

James Kary, Dylan Skabo and Mason Schiff each went 2-for-3 at the plate. Kary and Herauf contributed doubles. Mickey Folske had a RBI while going 1-for-1.

“We did some nice execution with guys in scoring position,” Hansen said. “We squeezed one in, did some little things today that we’ve been working on, nice sacrifices. That helps a bunch.”

The Roughriders play back-to-back games against Glasgow, Mont., and Regina, Sask., beginning at 9 a.m. today.
