Stark County Relay for Life of the American Cancer Society is hosting a reception for all cancer survivors and their choice of a caregiver on Sunday at the Living Word Fellowship Church, 1645 14th St. W.
“It’s designed for anyone who is a cancer survivor,” said organizer Kitty Monke. “A cancer survivor is anyone who recently was diagnosed, whether having started treatments or not, all the way to people who have been in remission for years and years.”
The event is free and an opportunity to honor survivors and caregivers, she said.
It’s also a prelude to the Stark County Relay for Life on July 20 at Dickinson High School. The opening ceremony begins at 6 p.m., with the survivor’s lap to follow.
“I’ve seen people come to either the Relay for Life or the survivor event able to open up more and talk because they realize they are not alone,” she said. “They find people they know who were maybe survivors a long time ago.”
Hospice caregivers will be the guest speakers at the reception.
The theme of this year’s Relay for Life is “To experience the magic of relay,” which is the nation-wide Relay for Life Theme.
Cancer survivors are asked to register by today with Monke at 701-290-3597 or email email@example.com.
