Letter: People voted Tuhy in as sheriff
I would just like to give a little feedback on what most people who have grown up here in Dickinson already know.

Sheriff Tuhy is in this role because the people voted him there, not once, but twice. A lot of this has to do with his career as a Dickinson Police officer.
When I was growing up, there were some officers that harassed youth because there was just no way they could possibly be up to good. Then there were some good ones that we never forget that let you know that you did not have to be afraid of them. Some that come to mind in addition to Tuhy were Ben Coates, Chuck Rummel and good old Mr. Wallace. There are probably others, but these were the ones that impacted my life, and many others.
As a kid, you never forget that. Somewhere along the line people get it programmed in their head to be annoyed and afraid of police officers. This was not the case with the above mentioned. And if it was, it was probably because you used all your passes and it was time to face the music.
This notion of the House of Manna and the sheriff driving his patrol car even off duty, well, I cannot comment on that whether he did or didn’t, but who cares. With all the changes going on in this area, the more patrol cars visible the better. And if they want their presence to be known off the clock, I say amen to them.
There are all types of management styles, and almost everyone needs to brush up on skills from time to time. In almost all cases, it is not just one, but many who have something to work on.
If the people want a new sheriff in town, let them do the job when it is time. To go against the people’s wishes over the alleged House of Manna incident and these other claims are horrendous.
Thank you for your time.
