Letter: The government has no funds to give

Your article on Heidi Heitkamp indicates she wants the federal government to “pony up” and send funds to North Dakota.

The federal government is out of funds. The current deficit is about $16 trillion and future unfunded liabilities are at least $100 trillion; twice that according to some economists. And more deficits and debt are just around the corner: the Congressional Budget Office estimates the Affordable Care Act will kill jobs in the next decade, ergo more unemployment benefits, food stamp benefits, Social Security disability benefits, etc.

And the financial cost of the ACA, originally estimated at about $800 billion is currently at $2.6 trillion by some estimates and it’s not even fully implemented.

North Dakota is very high on the list of federal subsidies per capita; now that the state is experiencing an oil boom, I believe President Barack Obama’s “Fairness Doctrine” dictates that you should start sending funds back to Washington to help balance the federal budget.

I believe the president would agree that doing so is simply paying your fair share!
