Letter: Stark County sheriff helpful in tough situation

A few years ago, we were out at the farm north of Gladstone. It was a hot day and my husband was working in the garden. He finished and we were ready to go home and he complained of not feeling well.

He became very dizzy and could not see to drive home. We called 911, which in return got the Dickinson Ambulance and also the sheriff and his helper to come out.

I am totally disabled as I could not drive the pick-up home. My husband they took with the ambulance. There was me, the dog and the truck to get home to Dickinson.

Sheriff Clarence Tuhy had to squeeze in the front because he could not get the driver’s seat back far enough since the pet carrier was behind the seat.

It was tough for him to drive the truck home, which he did and now became the real problem. I had to be lifted out of the truck seat into the wheelchair, which he did. He had to get the dog out of the pet carrier. He had to wheel me up the ramp into the house. He made sure the dog and I were safe at home. We do thank Tuhy for that.

We all may make mistakes at one time or another. We were grateful that Tuhy and his helper were out there to help us get home safely.
