Brian Qvale will spend his second year abroad in a new country.

After playing his first professional basketball season with Aliaga Petkim in Izmir, Turkey, the Williston High School and University of Montana graduate has signed a new one-year contract to play for Belfius Mons-Hainaut in Mons, Belgium.

Ben Pensack, Qvale’s agent with the Pensack Sports Management Group in San Francisco, Calif., said Thursday that Qvale now moves to a better situation.

“Turkey was not a bad situation by any means,” Pensack said. “He got some really good experience at a high level. But in terms of how big his role will be, he’ll have a bigger role personally on this Belgium team than he did on this Turkish team.”

Qvale, a 6-foot-11 center, averaged 8.9 points and 4.4 rebounds per game while shooting 57 percent from the field last season. He averaged about 19 minutes per game, Pensack said.

Qvale was the 2007 North Dakota Mr. Basketball winner.
