Roughriders split with 2 tough opponents

RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Dickinson Roughriders tangled with two of the top American Legion baseball teams from South Dakota and Wyoming over a span of 18 hours at the Pev Evans Tournament and came away with a split.

RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Dickinson Roughriders tangled with two of the top American Legion baseball teams from South Dakota and Wyoming over a span of 18 hours at the Pev Evans Tournament and came away with a split.

Brett Braunagel went 3-for-4 and drove in the go-ahead run in the seventh inning as the Roughriders beat Rapid City Post 22 5-3 in a game that started late Friday night and concluded Saturday morning.

Gillette, Wyo., then defeated Dickinson 6-4 on Saturday afternoon after the Roughriders climbed out of a 4-0 deficit to tie the game.

“We just keep battling,” Dickinson head coach Cory Hansen said. “We’re never out of it. We don’t quit. That’s our biggest attribute.”

Mickey Folske added a RBI on a fielder’s choice to help seal the win over Rapid City.

James Kary was 2-for-3 with a RBI, Dylan Skabo had a RBI single and Taylor Kraenzel was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Mason Schiff pitched a complete game to take the victory for the Roughriders.

Gillette took a 4-0 lead before Dickinson rallied to tie the game.

Skabo was 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored, Kraenzel had a double and Kary was 1-for-3 with a RBI. Sean Kelly started on the mound and took the loss.

Dickinson plays Jackson Hole, Wyo., at 9:30 a.m. today in its tournament finale.
