Class A boys explode in 2nd half, dominate Class B

The Class A boys, however, were just getting warmed up.
They posted 61 points in the second half to roll past Class B 105-72 in the first of the 2012 Lions All-Star basketball series on Tuesday at the Bismarck Civic Center.
Bismarck Century’s Tom Fraase led Class A with 16 points, including three 3-pointers. The team’s other Century graduate, Andre Maund, joined in with 15 points and three 3-pointers.
Class A had six players score in double figures: Fargo South’s Landon Poss (14), Grand Forks Red River’s Mack Arvidson (13), Grand Forks Central’s Sean Norton (12) and Wahpeton’s Jeremy Bontjes (10).
Berthold’s Daniel Yale led Class B with 18 points, followed by Mr. Basketball winner Melvin Langstaff of Warwick with 16.
Bottineau’s Justin McCloud had the game’s lone double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Beulah’s Casey Duppong and Mott-Regent’s Chad Mosbrucker each supplied six points in the loss. Mosbrucker added two steals.
During the second half, Class B made a run to close within four points, 49-45, but Class A responded with a 21-7 run. Once Class A took a 64-52 lead, it put on the cruise control.
Class A put together multiple double-digit runs to sink Class B into hole with less than 10 minutes to play.
Fraase and company went 40 of 86 (47 percent) from the field, while Class B shot 29 of 75 (39 percent).
The series concludes at 8 p.m. CDT today at the Fargo Civic Auditorium.
