A prairie fire broke out Friday after a farmer’s service vehicle started a fire in a stubble field and it burned into a wheat field and some pasture land about 10 miles outside of Richardton, off Highway 8 near the border of Dunn and Stark counties. Fire crews and area volunteers worked to contain the blaze using water hoses and irrigation equipment. Here, a fire crew truck races off to refill its water supply in order to suppress the smoldering fire, which covered a wide area of approximately 50 acres, according to Fire Chief Jason Kostelecky of the Richardton Rural Fire Department. The fire was eventually extinguished, Kostelecky said.
