Letter: Governor champion of North Dakota infrastructure investment

The term infrastructure is being used a lot lately when talking about our economy, our population growth, our rising school enrollments and more.

Infrastructure boils down to roads, sewer systems, or water lines — the basic needs for individuals or private business to be able to build homes or facilities and take advantage of the opportunities to live and work in North Dakota.

Gov. Jack Dalrymple has been a champion of infrastructure investment since he stepped into office in 2010, pushing to get more done across the state, especially in western counties.

The results are new bypasses, hundreds of miles of road reconstruction, and hundreds of builders moving in to construct new housing.

His two recent proposals — one for road infrastructure and one for housing infrastructure investment — show his continued focus and they are right on the money. We do have the opportunity here in North Dakota to invest in things that will enhance our communities and enhance our economy for years to come. And, infrastructure is the right way for state dollars to be invested. Infrastructure is a public sector priority and responsibility, so that the free market can flourish in ways individuals decide.

As the upcoming legislative session approaches, there will be many initiatives to consider. But, under Dalrymple’s leadership, infrastructure will remain a top priority.
