Speedy suspect caught on tip in west Dickinson

Police cuff a man off of Villard Street who was allegedly riding in a truck that led officers on a chase Friday.

Dickinson police caught up with and arrested a 48-year-old man Friday night who had allegedly led them on a vehicle and foot chase earlier in the day.

“We took him into custody without incident,” Dickinson police Sgt. Mike Hanel said at about 9 p.m. Friday. “It was actually a tip that led us to the address.”

Adolfo Lepe Sr., Dickinson, wanted for a Stark County domestic-related assault warrant, is said to have run from his vehicle after leading police on a high-speed chase Friday.

Capt. Joe Cianni said in a press release that Lepe Sr. was found in an apartment complex in the 1100 block of 17th Avenue West. Hanel said the residence was that of a relative of Lepe Sr.

The arrest occurred around 8 p.m., according to police, and Lepe Sr. was transported to Southwest Multi-County Correctional Center, where he was lodged on a Stark County warrant for misdemeanor assault and additional charges of misdemeanor fleeing and reckless driving.

Officers got a tip after noon that a wanted man was seen by Maverick’s Saloon.

“Once he saw the officers, he left the parking lot and eventually fled,” Hanel said of Lepe Sr.

Lepe Sr. began to pull away in his truck and a pursuit through the city ensued with speeds of 60 to 70 mph.

The truck stopped on the other side of town, near the Spur Bar & Lounge in west Dickinson.

Police had the passenger out of the vehicle and cuffed on the street while other officers blocked streets with their vehicles and searched the area.

Police would not release the passenger’s name.

The department sent a phone recording to residents at about 12:50 p.m. Friday asking them to keep their doors locked because officers were unsure as to whether the suspect was carrying a firearm.

Handgun ammunition was found in the vehicle but the passenger claimed Lepe Sr. wasn’t armed.

Hanel said further information also lead police to believe he is unarmed. “But we always err on the side of caution.”
