CENTRAL PLAINS REGIONAL: Roughriders face Eden Prairie at 6 p.m. Sunday

The Dickinson Roughriders will have to beat the defending American Legion World Series champion if it wants to continue its Cinderella run at the Central Plains Regional baseball tournament.

Dickinson will play Eden Prairie, Minn., the lone unbeaten team in the tournament, at 6 p.m. Sunday on Astoria Field at Southside Ballpark. Omaha (Neb.) PI Midwest and Edina, Minn., will play at 3 p.m.

The Roughriders, the tournament host who just over a week ago entered the North Dakota Class A state tournament as the bottom seed, beat Iowa state champion West Des Moines 3-1 on Friday and defeated Nebraska state runner-up Papillion Pinnacle Bank 5-1 to reach the final four of the regional tournament.

Eden Prairie, the Minnesota state runner-up, has not lost in the tournament and defeated Edina 8-6 in a game that ended at 12:45 a.m. Sunday.

Win or lose against Dickinson, Eden Prairie is guaranteed a shot at the Central Plains Regional title on Monday.

If Eden Prairie beats Dickinson, it would play the winner of the game between Omaha PI Midwest and Edina at 11 a.m. Monday for the championship. Should Eden Prairie lose that game, the teams would play again at 2 p.m. because of double-elimination rules.

If Dickinson beats Eden Prairie, it would play the winner of Omaha PI Midwest and Edina at 11 a.m. Sunday. That game's winner would then play Eden Prairie at 2 p.m. for the region championship.
