Bidding on Dickinson’s 17th liquor license was opened and closed in less than three minutes on Monday

The “anti-climactic” event took place at 1 p.m. at City Hall.

Coborn’s Inc., parent company of Cash Wise Foods and Cash Wise Liquors, was the only bid and, pending approval from the City Commission, will purchase the license from the city for $185,000.

“I have to admit I am surprised, yes,” City Administrator Shawn Kessel said.

Coborn’s plans to open its Cash Wise stores in the Roers’ Development in west Dickinson in 2014.

The $185,000 will be due upon commission approval.
