AD: Van Diest will remain Carroll football coach

HELENA, Mont. — Carroll College athletic director Bruce Parker says Mike Van Diest will remain as head coach of the football team.

The school says Van Diest talked to his team Monday to reassure his commitment to the student-athletes and the program.

Parker had told the Helena Independent Record that Van Diest indicated to upperclassmen on Sunday that he was thinking about stepping away from his head coaching position. It's not clear why he indicated that. Van Diest wasn't available for comment Monday.

A news conference is scheduled for Tuesday.

As Carroll’s head coach, the Saints have won six NAIA national championships, an unprecedented 12 consecutive Frontier Conference titles. Van Diest has a 157-22 record over 13 seasons.
