A staffer at Heart River Elementary School found a gas leak Wednesday, forcing students and teachers to evacuate on the first day of class, Dickinson Fire Department Chief Robert Sivak said.
A gas leak was also found at Trinity Elementary West on Tuesday in a routine fire inspection, he said.
DFD was able to inspect all the city’s schools before classes started Wednesday, Sivak said.
“Our inspectors really put forth an extra effort in getting those schools done,” he said. “And something like this gas leak is the reason why.”
Both leaks were fixed after Montana-Dakota Utilities was notified, he said. The leak at Trinity was fixed before school started.
The fire department was informed of the Heart River leak and was on standby but did not respond, Sivak said. DFD sent inspectors to double check the school.
