Heart River No. 2 in Class 1A

The Heart River football team nabbed the No. 2 spot in first week of the Class 1A high school football poll.

The Heart River football team nabbed the No. 2 spot in first week of the Class 1A high school football poll.

The Cougars (1-0) defeated Watford City 48-13 as senior Seth Ewoniuk broke the school rushing record.

No. 1-ranked Stanley-Powers Lake (1-0), the defending state champion, received all 11 first-place votes for 60 voting points. Heart River had 35 points in the first poll of the season.

Hazen (0-1) also received votes in Class 1A despite losing 28-8 to Beulah last Friday.

In the 9-man poll, Wyndmere-Lidgerwood (2-0) received six first-place votes for the top spot. North Star (2-0) is ranked No. 2 with three first-place votes.

Mott-Regent (2-0) also received two points after starting out the season with wins over Center-Stanton and Parshall-White Shield.
