MANDAN — As the temperature dropped, so did the Dickinson State men’s and women’s golf scores.
The Blue Hawks finished had a total of seven golfers in the individual top 10 during the Mystic Open on Tuesday at Prairie West Golf Course.
“If giving out water is any indication, we went through half as much water as we did last week,” DSU head coach Thadd O’Donnell said.
DSU had Chandler Pender and Paige Kamminga each take third in the men’s and women’s individual top 10, respectively.
Pender shot a 74 as the lead group ripped through 18 holes and made it back in the clubhouse with an hour before everyone else. The men’s team placed runner-up with a 309, eight strokes behind winner Jamestown College (301).
“He’s been real consistent,” O’Donnell said. “He played in the Labor Day Classic, so he’s played a lot. He was in the first group and they buzzed through the 18 holes.”
Kamminga posted an 83, six shots ahead of fourth-place finisher and teammate Stefanie Bohrer (89). Laura Duppong added an 89 for fifth place, while Caitlin Hurlock took ninth (92). The women’s team took first with a 353.
“It was one those where superstition came into play,” O’Donnell said. “Some of the girls when I went up to talk to them and asked them how they were doing all they said was, ‘Good, good.’ I didn’t get a score out of them and I didn’t want to ask them.
“They played real relaxed today. They shot well. It was one of those courses where they could go for some things.”
