BISMARCK — When the Dickinson High and Bismarck Century volleyball teams take the court against one another, it’s going to be a good match.

“We have, for as long as I’ve been coaching, had a lot of really good volleyball matches with Century,” Dickinson head coach Jay Schobinger said. “Even those years, when one team was clearly better than the other, 90 percent of the matches have been good.

“Tonight was no different.”

The Midgets came away with a five-set (23-25, 25-23, 18-25, 25-16, 15-13) win over their West Region opponents on Thursday night.

“In matches that close, it usually comes down to just a couple little things,” Schobinger said.

Senior Abby Grove led Dickinson’s offense with 17 kills and picked up two blocks and two aces.

Senior Ali Moody corralled a triple-double with 13 kills, 30 assists and 18 digs. Rachel Schroeder controlled the net with five blocks.

“Ali, Abby, Rachel and Taylor (Cooper) got a lot of playing time last year, so they are expected every night to lead us,” Schobinger said.

The Midgets (6-3, 2-0 West Region) were also helped out by role players, including Jess Priebe with 23 digs, Madison Schobinger with 12 assists and Sierra Rohr with seven kills.

“We played 12 kids again,” Schobinger said. “Everybody stepped up and did their own little thing.”

Dickinson continues West Region play against Minot High at 4 p.m. on Saturday at the DHS gymnasium.
