Reiss turns fast, secures NDRA steer wrestling title

WATFORD CITY — Jason Reiss was on his game at the North Dakota Rodeo Association Finals last weekend. So was Jim Hansen.

One-tenth of a second separated the steer wrestlers at the NDRA Finals, allowing Reiss — a Dickinson cowboy — to win his third NDRA title and first since 2005.

Hansen, from Watford City, won Friday’s first round with a 3.7-second run as Reiss took second with a 3.8. They tied for sixth in Saturday’s second round with 4.8-second runs.

Reiss entered the rodeo with a lead in the season point standings.

While final point standings were not available, other NDRA champions included: Almont’s Lee Dunford in the bareback riding, Menoken’s Katelyn Fitzgerald in barrel racing, Parshall’s Preston Billadeau in calf roping, Sawyer’s Brandi Guttormson in breakaway roping and Fort Yates’ Britt Luger in the saddle bronc riding.
