UND tops NDSU on college rankings

UND is in a three-way tie for No. 170 with University of South Florida in Tampa and Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. It slipped six spots from last year.
NDSU ranks No. 184 and shared the spot with three other universities.
There are 199 ranked universities in the category.
Harvard University and Princeton University are tied for No. 1. South Dakota State University and the University of South Dakota are tied at No. 199. The University of Minnesota-Twin Cities is No. 68.
The rankings are based on factors ranging from the reputation of the universities according to surveys of school counselors to universities’ freshman retention rate, according to U.S. News & World Report.
The average freshman retention rate at UND and NDSU was 78 percent. At SDSU and USD, it was 76 percent. At Harvard and Princeton, it was 98 percent.
