Titans sweep Bulldogs after long 3rd set

BOWMAN — The Dickinson Trinity volleyball team had an excited third set to say the least.

BOWMAN — The Dickinson Trinity volleyball team had an excited third set to say the least.

The Titans needed 35 points in the final set to sweep Region 7 opponent Bowman County 25-13, 25-22, 35-33 on Thursday.

“It was head-to-head all the way to the end,” Trinity head coach Rayma Braaten said. “Both teams wanted to win, but it was pretty exciting to watch.”

Trinity started off with limited errors, but as the match went on the scores after each set reflected the amount of errors.

“I was very proud of them and we came on strong in the first set,” Braaten said. “We were cutting down pretty well on our errors, but we started making more mistakes, so that kind of hurt us.”

Alyson Schieno led the Titans with a game-high 17 kills. Allison Steffan added eight, followed by Gretchen Weir with six and Katelyn Grinsteinner with 4. However, Braaten said it was the defense that kept the Titans in the game, not the offense.

Schieno added nine digs, while Britney Schneider supplied 13 and Katelyn Rummel had 12. Jillian Stockert rounded out the Titans leaders with 10 digs.

The Titans were also able to serve the ball well against the Bulldogs. Grinsteinner led the team with six aces, while Katelyn Dockter and Stockert each had two.

For the Bulldogs, Haley Sabe had 12 digs, while Macy Smyle, Morgan Woodley and Nicole Carlson each with three kills.

Trinity travels to a tournament in Valley City on Saturday.
