Aaron’s has been in Dickinson for about two and a half months and the reception has been fantastic, management said.

The rent-to-own franchise, which sells furniture, appliances and electronics, opened in July and hosted a grand opening the first weekend in August, owner Ryan Wagner said.

“With the Bakken and everything going on there’s a lot of activity and our business and our profile of renting furniture and appliances and electronics fits with all the new businesses and people coming to town.”

The business is part retail, part rent-to-own and part rental store.

“You can rent it to rent it, so you can rent it for six months, you can rent it for one weekend if you wanted to,” Wagner said. “Super Bowl weekend you want to rent — we do a lot of TVs for Super Bowl weekend.”

The business also does a lot of home staging, he said. That’s where furniture is moved into a for-sale home to make it more appealing to buyers.

“We do it for homeowners who are trying to sell their house or developers that are selling model homes,” he said. “We have several big projects there in the home staging.”

Aaron’s guarantees that everything will work, even if it’s been in someone else’s home, Sales Manager Faustino Medina said.

“We make sure it’s good before we put it back out on the floor,” he said. “That’s what the Aaron’s Service Plus is all about.”

The franchise is set to open its 2,000th location in coming weeks, and will be hosting a sales event to celebrate the occasion,

Wagner said.

“Every day is different,” General Manager Vince Costello said. “You get to meet a lot of nice people. It’s not a business where we’re going out looking for other people. They’re coming in, looking for us.”

The Dickinson location is Wagner’s third store. His others are in Miles City and Glendive, Mont.

The Miles City native played football and baseball for the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks after graduating from high school in 1995, but left for New Mexico after the flood of 1997 and graduated from New Mexico State in 1999.

“Dickinson has been very well received,” Wagner said. “The people of Dickinson — both the locals and the new people coming to town — have been great to us. So far so good.”
