Blue Hawks fight through conditions at Maple River
MAPLETON — The Dickinson State golf teams fell short of Jamestown College on the Valley City State Invitational, which started Sunday and concluded Monday at the wind-whipped and rain-soaked Maple River Golf Club.
MAPLETON — The Dickinson State golf teams fell short of Jamestown College on the Valley City State Invitational, which started Sunday and concluded Monday at the wind-whipped and rain-soaked Maple River Golf Club.
“It was a tough two days of golf,” DSU coach Thadd O’Donnell said. “We definitely would have liked to have had the weather over here in Dickinson because we could have used the rain.”
Caitlin Hurlock shot a 92-89–181 to finish in a tie for second place and lead the DSU women’s team to a runner-up finish. Jamestown College shot a 365-408–773 while DSU had a 398-392–790. Laura Duppong (99-95–194) and Stef Bohrer (99-97–196) finished seventh and eighth, respectively.
Chandler Pender was one of three DSU men’s players in the top 10. He shot a 78-87–162 to finish seventh. Tristen Long (84-81–165) and Brian Quintus (85-80–165) tied for 10th.
“It’s not a lot of wind break,” O’Donnell said. “It’s pretty wide open. We played better today.”
