BISMARCK (AP) — The old warden's house at the North Dakota State Penitentiary has been torn down, but antique furniture and other items from the house will be sold at an auction on Sept. 29.
The old brick house on the prison grounds had to be demolished Tuesday as part of a $64 million construction and renovation project at the prison. The warden is no longer required by law to live there, and the structure had to be removed for security reasons.
State officials removed furniture, woodwork, stained glass windows and other items from the home. State agencies and other government organizations could claim the property, but few did so.
The auction will sell antique furniture, light fixtures, formal dinnerware and salvaged staircase woodwork.
