The Dickinson High volleyball team knows it can play with some of the best teams in the state.

That was proven during the two-day Dickinson High Invitational as the Midgets defeated Fargo Davies 25-22, 19-25, 25-20 for third place in the gold tournament on Saturday at DHS gymnasium.

“When you play good qualities like we did today, you have to really work hard on eliminating mistakes,” Dickinson head coach Jay Schobinger said. “We learned that we have to communicate all the time. It can’t just be an on again, off again thing.”

Dickinson opened Saturday with a two-set 25-19, 25-15 win over Minot-Our Redeemers, but lost two close matches , 25-23, 26-24 to eventually champion Fargo North.

The Hettinger-Scranton Night Hawks defeated New England, 26-24, 20-25, 25-23 for the third place match in the bronze tournament.

The Midgets have a brief break before traveling to West Region opponent Williston at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
