Westminster beats DSU in first volleyball meeting

SALT LAKE CITY — Ashley Merchant had 14 kills and five blocks as Westminster College beat Dickinson State in a Frontier Conference volleyball match.

Melissa Avila had nine kills and 17 assists for the balanced Blue Hawks, who lost 25-13, 22-25, 25-17, 25-15 on Thursday night in the first meeting between the two teams in either program’s history.

Stephanie Jones had 12 kills and eight blocks for the Griffins (11-6, 4-2 Frontier).

Sarah Zeibig had six kills and Kelly O’Connor added 14 assists as the Blue Hawks fell to 2-12 and 0-5 in the Frontier.

DSU visits Montana Western at 2 p.m. Saturday.
