Dickinson resident Josie Dyer carries a red umbrella to help block the snow falling while on her way to The Brew in downtown Dickinson on Wednesday. The 40-plus-year resident was meeting a friend for coffee while running errands, she said. About 3 inches of snow fell over Dickinson by 3 p.m. Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service in Bismarck. Last year, the first measureable snowfall occurred on Nov. 30. In 2010, the weather service said it fell on Sept. 17.
