Killdeer’s Fettig inducted in ND Bowling Hall of Fame

Ron Fettig has received many accolades throughout his bowling career.

The crown jewel was joining the North Dakota Bowling Hall of Fame.

The Killdeer bowler was joined by Bismarck’s Anton Weekes Jr. and Devils Lake’s Becky Thomas as the 2012 inductees, which took place on Sept. 29 in Mandan.

“It’s a pretty great honor,” Fettig said. “I’ve won tournaments in four or five different states. I’ve bowled quite a bit.”

In his 38 years of league bowling, Fettig has 16 perfect games and six 800 series. He also won the 1993 KFYR Bowling Classic.

However the humble and soft-spoken Fettig, who calls The Paragon in Dickinson his home alley, said at times it’s the feats that don’t show up in the final score that are worth the most memories.

“There have been a few moments that have stuck out the most,” Fettig said. “I picked up a 7-10 split twice in one game. That was kind of neat, doing that twice in one game.”

Fettig had more than a 200 average for 15 years and at his highest point was a 224 average. He has won 12 state tournaments in the North Dakota Men’s State Scratch and Handicap Events.

“I like the competition,” Fettig said. “At tournaments, it’s an opportunity to see my friends from around the state. I’ve made a lot of friendships.”

John Mueller, the owner of Paragon, said having a bowler like Fettig frequent his alley is special honor.

“It’s a well-deserved honor,” Mueller said. “He’s a great bowler. He’s a nice guy and helps other bowlers that are there too.”

Not only is Mueller impressed with Fettig’s personal bowling ability, but the ability to help everyone else at the alley become better players.

“That’s indispensable,” Mueller said. “That’s huge for what he does for the other bowlers.”
