Anyone wishing to buy the silver 2007 Saturn Aura taken from Heiser Motors will get their chance.
The car, which was stolen from the lot early Tuesday morning, was returned Wednesday after the alleged thief, Jacob Evey, 32, Dickinson, called the police.
“He called and said, ‘I think I stole a car last night,’” Dickinson Police Department Capt. Dave Wilkie said.
Detectives and officers determined that the car Evey thought he took was the one missing from Heiser, he said.
He is believed to have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time, but it cannot be determined exactly what was in his system, Wilkie said.
Evey was taken into custody and placed under arrest for burglary and theft of a motor vehicle, he said.
“It’s nice that he was honest, but the fact of it is he did do it,” Wilkie said. “You want to reward people for doing the right thing, but I think where he will get his reward is through the courts.”
