When firefighters arrived in full gear aboard a fire truck with the ordered pizza, they asked to test the smoke alarm in the home. If the alarms failed to work, a new one was provided. When the smoke alarms tested OK, the customer received their pizza for free.
According to a press release, the situation was a win-win for the fire department and the customers.
According to the DFD, smoke alarms are the most effective and cheapest early warning device that should be tested monthly. Smoke alarm batteries should be replaced yearly. The fire service promotes “Change your clock, change your battery” on Nov. 4.
