GRAND FORKS — Most of the college hockey world opened regular season play Friday night.
University of North Dakota was busy learning a little bit more before it takes its turn to play for real next weekend.
UND beat the U.S. Under-18 team 6-4 in its last of two exhibition contests in Ralph Engelstad Arena. The real thing begins next Friday in Fairbanks, Alaska.
Danny Kristo once again showed why many thought he would sign with the Montreal Canadiens during the summer. He was dynamic in making two brilliant setups for goals by his linemates. He was named the No. 1 star of the game. And he finished the preseason with five points in two games.
Corban Knight added a goal and centered the top line. He went 18-4 in the faceoff dot, making him 36-10 (78.2 percent) on draws during the preseason. The school record is 59.9, owned by Knight.
Redshirt freshman Rocco Grimaldi scored two goals and continued to show why he’s one of the most dynamic players in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
