As someone who grew up on a ranch and still cares deeply for our livestock including horses, I encourage my fellow North Dakotans to vote no on Measure 5.
Measure 5 won’t help our horses. It won’t help any of our animals because it deals with cases that are extraordinarily rare. In fact, only two cases in the last 20 years in North Dakota would be helped with this measure.
The North Dakota Veterinary Medical Association recommends a no vote and that tells me all I need to know about how useful Measure 5 is. Measure 5 also only includes three species of animals does that mean my family’s cattle aren’t good enough for protection?
I also oppose Measure 5 because it is written and financed by out-of-state groups. I believe that we should write our own laws in North Dakota. I would ask readers to get the facts on Measure 5 and join me in voting no.
