BUCYRUS — A resident who did not lose their house in a devastating fire within the last 24 hours came back this morning in hopes of finding his dog.

As he looked upon the rubble, he found his sidekick Sky meandering through what was left of the town — a bit of light in an otherwise dark situation.

No injuries are reported in the fire and every resident is accounted for, and now Sky is among them.

Mike and Evelyn Krug moved to Bucyrus in 1968. They have six grown children who no longer live there. Their house was destroyed and they came to find safes with legal documents and such.

“Lord help me through one day at a time," Evelyn said.

"I don't ever want to come back here," she said of where their home used to stand.

"It's going to be a lot of work and a lot of clean-up and I know the community will help."

Smoke still fills the air in the town and Adams County Emergency Manager Michele Marthaller said firefighters are checking for hot spots. The Forest Service estimates 5,000 to 6,000-acres burned.

A news conference is planned for 1 p.m.
