As a full-time farmer, I am voting yes on Measure 3. I believe it’s important to protect modern agriculture from attacks from radical anti-ag groups such as the Humane Society of the United States and People of the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
These groups have millions of dollars and have used their resources to restrict farming practices in other states. These restrictions will lead to a less efficient, less competitive ag sector that could drive food production outside of the country. Agriculture is North Dakota’s largest industry; and as such, it is critical that it deserves some protection.
The arguments against Measure 3 have been weak and in some cases inaccurate. This measure addresses farming and ranching practices and does not affect the ability of counties and townships to zone at the local level. It does not negate any laws that are on the books. It is important that we put this constitutional protection in place now to defend agriculture for future generations.
Please join me in voting yes on Measure 3.
