Titans sweep Killdeer

BEULAH — It was a rollercoaster ride for the Dickinson Trinity volleyball team.

The No. 3 seed Titans, however, managed to overcome subtle mistakes en route to a sweep over the No. 6 seed Killdeer 27-25, 25-11, 25-21 during the first round of the District 14 Tournament on Friday.

“Our game wasn’t the best either, we had our ups and downs,” Trinity head coach Rayma Braaten said. “If we are going to be competitive on Monday, we have to play more consistent.”

Aly Schieno led the Titans with 11 kills, three aces and eight digs, while Gretchen Weir added six kills.

For the Cowboys, Taylor Achter and Kelsey Knutson each supplied five kills, while Alison Scheetz posted four. Jane Dukart had a match-high 30 digs and Jocelyn Walker supplied 16.

Trinity plays No. 2 seed Richardton-Taylor at 6:30 p.m. on Monday in the semifinals. Killdeer will play the loser of the No. 1 seed Beulah and No. 5 Hazen game at 5 p.m. on Tuesday in a region-qualifier match.

Hazen defeats Bearcats in four sets

No. 5 seed Hazen used a strong opening frame to set the tone for the remainder of the match. The Bison defeated No. 4 seed Glen Ullin-Hebron 25-5, 22-25, 25-16, 25-10 in the first round.

Rachel Hansana had an all-round performance with 44 assists, 11 digs, four aces and two aces, while Ashton Carter had a team-high 13 kills. Stephanie Ziegler supplied 11 kills, while Lexie Biffert added 10.

For the Bearcats, Laikyn Winckler posted nine kills, while Kari Gerving had 16 assists, six digs and one ace.

Hazen faces No. 1 seed Beulah on Monday at 5 p.m. Monday in the semifinals, while Glen Ullin-Hebron plays the loser of the Richardton-Taylor and Trinity at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in a region-qualifier match.
