Nelson, Miners beat back Huskies in Class 2A quarterfinals

BEULAH — Cody Nelson did it all against Wahpeton in the Class 2A quarterfinals. Offensively and defensively, he was everywhere.

Nelson led the team in rushing, receiving and nabbed an interception as the No. 3-ranked Miners defeated Wahpeton 36-21 on Saturday.

The game took place after late snowfall Friday night accumulated nearly four inches. Nonetheless, Beulah dug in and rallied from an early 21-14 halftime deficit.

Nelson had six carries for 105 yards and two touchdowns, including a 64-yard run. He added six catches for 92 yards from senior quarterback Trevor Zacher.

Zacher went 12 of 19 for 167 yards and three touchdowns. He connected with four different receivers and three of them caught touchdown.

For the Huskies (7-3), Brock Lingen had 17 carries for 133 yards and two TDs. The Miners shut down Wahpeton in the second half as the team score all 21 points in the first two quarters.

Beulah (9-1) now travels to play No. 1-ranked Fargo Shanley, the East Region champion, at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. The winner goes to the state championship game at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks.
