STANLEY — No. 1-ranked Stanley-Powers Lake needed just one strong quarter.

The Blue Jays chose the second.

Stanley-PL scored 20 points in the second quarter en route to a shutout victory over Killdeer 34-0 in the quarterfinals of the Class 1A playoffs on Saturday.

“In the second quarter, we misplayed a couple of things,” Killdeer head coach Lou Dobitz said. “I wish we could have those plays back and make the play on them.”

Sam Footh led the defending state champion Blue Jays (11-0), going 11 of 22 for 209 yards and two touchdowns. He connected with Blake Harstad on a 47-yard strike in the first quarter and a 50-yard pass to Abe Roerich in the second.

Roerich finished the scoring for the game with a 3-yard run in the fourth quarter. Kale Enget added a 34-yard run in the second quarter.

The Cowboys (7-4) used a pair of quarterbacks in the loss. Senior Christian Kulish was able to play a majority of the second half, while freshman Hayes LeMieux started his second game of his high school career.

“We were holding Christian was able to go, he wasn’t and he was limping real bad,” Dobitz said. “We decided that it could be his last game, so we let him play a little bit. He did really well.”

Stanley Powers-Lake will host Hazen, No. 4-ranked and No. 1 seed from Region 4, next for the Class 1A semifinals. The winner will punch its ticket to the state championship.
