Demons earn regular-season sweep of DHS

BISMARCK — The Bismarck High volleyball team became the only team to sweep Dickinson High in West Region regular-season matches Tuesday night.

The Demons dropped the second set, but the came away with the four-set win 27-25, 18-25, 25-23, 25-15 in the regular-season finale for both teams.

“We had opportunities to win the first and third and we didn’t take advantage of those opportunities,” Dickinson head coach Jay Schobinger said. “When you give a good team an opening, Bismarck took it and went with it.”

Bismarck (21-12, 11-5 West) used the same tactics to defeat Dickinson (24-9, 10-4 West) in four sets on Oct. 2 in Dickinson.

“It was very similar to that,” Schobinger said. “The one that’s really disappointing was the third. We made too many mistakes.”

Abby Grove led Dickinson with 15 kills, two aces and 20 digs, while Ali Moody added 12 kills, 22 assists and 16 digs.

Ashlee Hilzendeger had led the Demons with 15 kills and eight digs. Morgan Miller supplied 12 kills and 10 digs.

The two teams head to the West Region tournament starting on Nov. 8 in Mandan. The Midgets have a simple plan to make it to the state tournament.

“We’re going to go in, take one match at a time and find a way to get into the state tournament,” Schobinger said. “That’s the goal.”
