New charges added in alleged sex crime case in Dickinson

An existing $100,000 cash bond will cover new sex crime charges brought against a Dickinson man Wednesday in Southwest District Court in Dickinson.

Assistant Stark County State’s Attorney James Hope asked during a bond hearing Wednesday that the cash bond in the gross sexual imposition case against David Blinn, 24, also cover the two new charges of corruption of a minor.

Blinn is accused of having sexual contact with a minor female who was 15 years of age or older in late summer or fall of 2011 and late fall or early winter of 2011 or 2012, according to the criminal complaint.

Blinn said at the bond hearing via interactive television from the Southwest Multi-County Correction Center that he has already retained counsel for the previous charge.

He will be scheduled for a preliminary hearing to see if there is enough evidence to proceed with the case.

In addition to Blinn’s bond, Hope requested protection of the victim involved in the new charges.

“I also ask that Mr. Blinn have no contact with the alleged victim of the two new charges against him (if he is released),” Hope said.

Blinn faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison, a $10,000 fine and $500 in court fees if he is convicted on both counts of corruption of a minor, which is a Class C felony.

“A conviction also carries mandatory registration as a sex offender,” Judge Zane Anderson reminded Blinn.

Blinn is being held in jail on a Class AA felony gross sexual imposition charge.

He is accused, in that case, of having sexual contact with a 13-year-old girl in late June or early July, according to the criminal complaint.

Blinn pleaded not guilty in August to the gross sexual imposition charge and he appeared in court Tuesday for a pre-trial conference.

A date for the two-day trial for the gross sexual imposition case has not been scheduled.

If convicted on the gross sexual imposition charge Blinn faces a maximum penalty of life in prison without parole.

Hope said the difference in the two cases against Blinn has to do with the ages of the alleged victims.

In other court news

Claudio Quesada, 54, Dickinson, will have to give up possession of any firearms, in addition to posting 10 percent of a $5,000 appearance bond in order to be released from the Southwest Multi-County Correction Center after being charged with Class C felony terrorizing.

Hope said the police report alleges that Quesada was driving his vehicle Monday when a truck pulled out in front of him and a confrontation ensured. Quesada allegedly flashed a shotgun and then put it away.

Hope said law enforcement seized the weapon used in the alleged incident.

Quesada disputes the police report.
