HAZEN — Hazen was the last team to defeat Stanley-Powers Lake before the Blue Jays went on a 23-game win streak.
The No. 4-ranked Bison recreated memories of two years ago, defeating the No. 1-ranked and defending state champion Blue Jays 14-0 in the semifinals of the Class 1A playoffs on Saturday.
Stanley-Powers Lake’s was limited to 200 total yards, while Hazen’s junior running back Briar Bornemann rushed for 201 yards and a 4-yard touchdown in the third quarter.
Abe Roerich led the Blue Jays (11-1) with 22 carries for 112 yards.
Hazen’s senior quarterback Stetson Carr threw for 123 yards including a 2-yard pass to Tyler Wasem in the second quarter. Carr added 15 carries and 97 yards rushing.
Hazen travels to the Alerus Center in Grand Forks to play Westhope-Newburg-Glenburn in the Class 1A state championship on at 8 a.m. MST Friday.
