Dalrymple wins first full term as ND governor

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota Gov. Jack Dalrymple has been elected to a full term in office after taking over from former Gov. John Hoeven two years ago.

Dalrymple defeated Democratic state Sen. Ryan Taylor on Tuesday to win a four-year term. The 64-year-old Dalrymple had been lieutenant governor under Hoeven for 10 years. Dalrymple became governor when Hoeven was elected to the U.S. Senate.

The campaign for governor focused on managing North Dakota's economic growth.

Dalrymple says he's done a good job of balancing tax cuts with spending on public works.

But Taylor says the governor hasn't done enough to help local governments cope with problems created by North Dakota's oil boom.

Taylor was the Senate's Democratic leader during the 2011 Legislature.
