The District 36 Senate seat that was left open by George Nodland of Dickinson will go to Republican Kelly Armstrong over Democrat Rich Brauhn.
“Now it’s time to go to work,” Armstrong said.
Brauhn was unavailable for comment as he was out of town attending his mother’s funeral.
In a race that was too close to call for much of Tuesday evening, it was sure that Republican Mike Schatz (33.86 percent) would retain his House seat, but at press time with 13 of 14 precincts reporting it was too close to call between incumbent Democrat Shirley Meyer (24.74 percent) and challenger Republican Alan Fehr (26.69 percent). Dem. Bev Berger garnered 14.68 percent of the vote.
“It’s always kind of nice when the thing winds down because we’ve been working since February,” Schatz said.
All results are unofficial.
