MANDAN — The Dickinson High volleyball team had a fast start, but Jamestown moved on to the West Region championship match.
The Blue Jays stumbled in the first set, but came back to win in four sets 18-25, 25-20, 25-16, 25-23 in the West Region tournament on Friday.
“The big key early in set two was we missed three serves in a row,” Dickinson head coach Jay Schobinger said. “That let them open up a big lead. In the end, they made few mistakes than we did. When you have two evenly matched teams, it’s the team that makes fewer mistakes.”
Abby Grove led the Midgets with 14 kills, 11 digs and one ace, while Ali Moody supplied 10 kills, 24 assists and 11 digs. Jess Priebe and Mackee Hoffmann each 15 digs. Rachel Schroeder added a team-high five blocks and seven kills.
“The girls played hard,” Schobinger said. “We did a lot of good things.”
For the Blue Jays (26-8), Addie Eamon posted 15 kills and four blocks. Siri Jystad supplied 11 kills and four aces.
The Midgets (25-10) have one more chance to make it to the Class A state tournament playing in the state-qualifying match against Bismarck St. Mary’s at 1 p.m. today.
“We have to erase this from our memory,” Schobinger said. “This is done and over. We have to focus on one volleyball match against St. Mary’s.”
