Dickinson State places 6 at Finn Grinaker Cobber Open
MOORHEAD, Minn. — Dickinson State had six wrestlers place in the upper division of the Finn Grinaker Cobber Open on Saturday at Concordia College.
MOORHEAD, Minn. — Dickinson State had six wrestlers place in the upper division of the Finn Grinaker Cobber Open on Saturday at Concordia College.
Brad Steele was the highest finisher, taking second place at 149 pounds after losing by a 6-3 decision to the University of Minnesota’s Conrad Rangel. Bryden Lazaro took third after an 11-6 decision against Minnesota’s Jordan Bremer.
Jesse Hellinger was fourth at 184 and Matt Chambers was sixth at 133. Two DSU wrestlers wrestling unattached also placed. Cameron Schrempp was third at 174 and Tyler Johnson was sixth at 157.
In the lower division for freshmen and sophomores, DSU Manny Reyes beat teammate Sean Elkins for third place at 157 pounds. Skyler Carroll took fifth at 184 and Clayton Steinmetz was sixth at 141.
DSU had 15 pins, second only to North Dakota State’s 16.
“This tournament was a tough tournament,” DSU head coach Thadd O’Donnell said. “We’ve just got to have that confidence and those Division I guys have that confidence, they expect those wins. We’re just not to that point yet.”
