Elizabeth “Liz” Schneider, 85, Bismarck, died Nov. 17, 2012, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in Bismarck.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Bismarck Baptist Church in Bismarck with Rev. Allen Finger officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be today from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Eastgate Funeral Service, and will continue on Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Elizabeth “Liz” (Luithle) Schneider was born Sept. 28, 1927, to Friedrich and Elisabeth (Klein) Luithle. She was born, raised, and educated in Hettinger County. On Jan. 7, 1948, Elizabeth married Edwin J. Schneider from Hebron, at Neuburg Congregational Church near Burt. They farmed near Hebron until 1957 at which time they moved to Bismarck. Liz was always busy with their four sons and their families. Her family was always very important to her.
She loved baking, gardening, needlework, alterations, and babysitting. She worked at St. Alexius, Bismarck High School, and Dan’s Supermarket. She retired in 2001 after 25 years at Dan’s Supermarket. Liz and Ed enjoyed traveling. They traveled to all 50 states (including a cruise to Alaska), Canada, and eight countries in Europe. They celebrated their 50th anniversary with a Caribbean cruise.
Liz volunteered more than 20 years with RSVP, delivering books to the shut-ins and at the Baptist Home. She was a member of Bismarck Baptist Church, sang with the Senior Saints Choir, and helped with White Cross work. She was also a member of the German’s from Russia organization and sang with the German Singers for 15 years. She was an auxiliary member of the VFW, Amvets and Disabled American Veterans. She was an honorary member of the North Dakota Iwo Jima Veterans’ Association.
Liz is survived by her husband, Edwin of Bismarck; four sons, Ron (Mary), Harvey (Vicki), Dalles (Susan), and Russell (Carrie), all of Bismarck; twelve grandchildren, Erica Schneider-Davis of Bismarck, Clarissa (Ryan Belohlavek) Schneider of Ridge, N.Y., Philip (Allyson) Schneider of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Bethany (Ryan) Quarne of Minneapolis, Minn., Tim Schneider of Bismarck, Weston (Emily) Schneider of St. Cloud, Minn., Jason (Lisa) Schneider of Minneapolis, Minn., Tyson Schneider of Bismarck, Austin (Darby) Schneider of St. Croix U.S. Virgin Islands, Kari (Casey) Schaff of Flasher, Kael Schneider of Minneapolis, Minn., and Nicole (Eric) Daley of Pittsburgh, Pa; 11 great-grandchildren, Willow Davis, Maya Belohlavek, Isla and Malcolm Schneider, Hannah, Alyson, and Grant Schneider, Colton Schaff, and Jackson, Riley, and Ryan Daley; two sisters, Martha Ottmar of Mott and Addie McConachie (twin sister) of Bismarck; one sister-in-law, Sarah Luithle of Bismarck; one brother-in-law, Leo Voll of Mandan; and many nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Fred, Edward, and John; and four sisters, Bertha Dohn, Carolyn Bertalan, Ida Luithle, and Frieda Voll.
The family prefers memorials to Bismarck Baptist Church, Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Sanford Hospice, or donor’s choice.
